Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime,Mr. Antonio-Maria Costa, refuses to answer mr Polak's (Encod) question. It is shocking to see that a UN official is not able to produce an intelligent answer to a simple question like this. It is even more stressing to see that the Encod spokesman gets silenced for asking the question: How do you explain the contradiction between the theory of drug prohibition and the Dutch experience? In the Netherlands (where the personal use of cannabis is decriminalised) the level of drug use is lower than in countries where the use of cannabis is prohibited.

  • I can do without the shitty music. wtf?

  • You can do without the music???

    We can do without Costa!!!

Not everybody likes the same music ... but this clip is about something much more fundamental! How is it possible that the "Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime" is ignorent? Shouldn't he be better informed about the subject he is suposed to be an expert on? Why does he not want to hear an expert view or answer expert questions. It is much more shocking to hear Costa speak than to hear the music you complain about.

  • As a Dutch citizen, this kind of response does not surprise me. THERE IS NO DRUGPROBLEM. Problems are created, the Dutch just deal with it in a very succesfull way.

Furthermore, I think it is in everybody's NATURAL right to use substances that grow on their own planet. THIS IS OUR PLANET AND WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO USE EVERYTHING THAT IS ON IT, so: mushrooms, marihuana, ayahuasco, mescalin and so on, SHOULD BE LEGAL.

Another question is, whether it is wise for some people to use these substances.

  • Costa = liar liar pants on fire nose as long as a telephone wire.

  • Anyone who believes the violence caused by the law is caused by the drugs should research the drinking alcohol trade in countries still engaging in absolute prohibition. Murder, kidnapping, torture, robbery, rape, impersonating police, and systemic corruption are all part and parcel of the business. Yes, in the year 2011, Google bootlegging and bootlegger if you don't believe it.

Ever hear of a crack dealer raping another crack dealer in the US? Those bootleggers play hard, and I do mean hard.

  • Oh for the love of god, why would anyone believe that liar Joe Arpaio over people who actually live in the fucking country? Oh yeah, Sheriff Joe knows all, sees all, gets his employers sued left and right to the tune of 10s of millions of dollars because of his flagrant disregard for the law.

How can anyone be so stupid and still be alive? Sheriff Arpaio is an expert on Holland? BULLSHIT!

"Between 2004 and 2007, 2700 suits were filed against Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Federal and County Courts...

  • I think it would be a much better thing for the world to execute the idiotcy that believes in executing people for not kowtowing to the asinine failure of the war on (some) drugs. Barbaric idiots that believe some of the most heinous assholes of all time, known liars making self serving statements with no backup whatever.

Fortunately most people are beyond feeding their base, animal bloodlust, so we're not going to have any executions, no matter how much these chimp brained people deserve it.

  • Think outside the box.Use the masked chalice, breathe deeply and see.Its all lies and BS,its a waste of time.Smoking weed every now and then will set you straight.Don't believe the lies.Thye want to feed you GMO's and nuke cooked plastic wrapped garbage. They don't care about you or what you want. You had human ancestors(yes its true, real human beings)maybe you should try and act like them.It might help the directionless sheeples who are mostly politically correct cowards who make democracy useless

  • @hempdottv Because he's selfish and just wants to keep his useless job. And the people who work for him want to keep their jobs too. It's a network of selfish people making money off of taxpayers really. I imagine he's being paid to spread this specific brand of propaganda by people who would like to make money off of drug traffickers. Making it illegal creates black market values which are much more profitable for everyone, including law enforcement and weapons factories. Really disgusting.

  • @KripDrip Do some research on the UN Single Convention and you'll understand. Largely due to US pressure, anyone in the UN has to stand by this convention, which in part dictates that cannabis be lumped in with narcotics as 'dangerous' and 'deleterious to society' and so on. Ya know, the usual propaganda BS! But it's OK to drink and smoke cigarettes? Makes no sense, but it's all political. Check out the book "Cannabis: A History" by author Martin Booth, very enlightening!

  • 1) You take the trade off the streets, so only people who are looking for drugs come into contact with them.

    2) There are age restrictions in coffeeshops, none on the streets, just as there are in pubs.

    3) You take away the 'rite of passage' element of smoking weed, because anyone over 18 with cash can get a hold of it if they want to.

    Same with Portugal.

  • @KripDrip

" that doesnt make sense. "

It is what is called 'counterintuitive'. However, that is what happens. For instance, there are 500 coffeeshop in Holland, where you can by limited amounts of weed, hashish, and smartshops that have magic mushrooms, salvia divinorum and other psychedelics.

Drug use per capita in Holland is lower than in the countries around it, where these drugs are illegal.
