I tought Spain was like that and after my 3rd holiday there i made friends for a life! The first impression is the one that's stays but we can change that. We just need the spirit!

Probably it was you that were too rude to comprehend that it should be you, as a foreigner, to adapt to the Portuguese ways instead of showing yourself as superior just because your the one paying. I'm sure if you would at least tried to speak Portuguese, or behave like one, people would be more comprehensive with you and appreciate you effort.

The Portuguese are very rude people. The way they treat tourists specially Americans is unbelievable. I been there and its not a great country to visit.
