  • The chief subject of this truly amazing Chopin work is a masterly expression of a great powerful grief sending forth to heaven a cry of deepest anguish. It requires a delicate balance of virtuoso piano technique and a depth of pure emotional strength to pull it off. This particular performance sadly lacks that delicate balance, sorry to say. The pianist is too preoccupied with technical challenges. The emotion is simply not there

    unfortunately in any convincing way.

  • It seems you are the only person who feels this way. FYI, I have given many performances of this piece and the feedback is totally opposite of what you say. How about you find a rendition you like and send it to me? I am curious about your perceptions...

  • lol i just realized that you missed the first opening octave (c)

  • The internet does not always cooperate in loading the video. My suggestion is to allow a certain amount to stream while on pause...then cut it back to the beginning...the first octave will be there, for sure!

  • @ninemuses This Chopin nocturne is one of those classical piano works that are immensely and deceptively difficult to perform. Few have the emotional depth and maturity required to pull it off beyond just a bravura technical performance. This piece really separates the men from the boys of piano

masters. The Rubinstein recording on utube certainly ranks among the few that give Chopin his due. However Shura Cherakassys rendition sets the standard imho.

  • @townsendjean On the contrary. I believe this pianist, unlike many others, simply lets the music speak and does not guild the lily as is so often done with Chopin Nocturnes, and with this one, in particular.

  • ahh first part was too fast for my liking... when doppio movimento hits, it's not a striking contrast... I was expecting lightning speed (twice the speed of the first part) but it's not much different.

The Fazioli piano obviously does not sustain as well as a Steinway... (very crisp sound...)

  • So, THAT's what a Fazioli piano sounds like. Amazing...oh, and the playing is beautiful too!

  • Very personal and enchanting playing. Bravo.

Faziolis - Such loud pianos, but impressive. Thanks for the video.

  • At the beginning there´s a tad more stopping and starting than slowing and speeding up. Flowing sustenuto is the first thing to strive for in this piece i think. After 2:00 and some clear beat counting things start working wonderfully!

  • why your right. thanks rich, dont get the impression that i watched your video several times so i could find mistakes. i have just watched it/listened to it so many times that i noticed that it was missing. btw when will you be on skype?we have alot to catch up on.
