He's not wearing trunks, I've seen some other pix of him. I don't think it bothers me that much, as long if they handle the overal look of the suit well. As for the actor...I admit he isn't the kind of Superman I would personally fall for. I see Superman more as a kind of older, experienced man with alot of charisma and easily attracts trust around him. The actor here seems like he only wants to be "badass". But who knows, this is just one picture - in the movie he might have the right attitude.

I heard that Jerry Seigals family owns the rights to action comics 1 which means they own the original costume. That might be why WB changed the costume for this movie.

@Supherodude Well, that could be the case, but then again the animated movies still uses the iconic costume, so does the series Young Justice. However, they did change the costume in the comics as well. In my opinion their trying to present a contemporary take on the suit that's a bit more realistic than his mother being somehow able to stitch together material that's indestructible. In even the 1940's Superman made his own costume, and in the new continuity it's Kryptonian in origin.

Why don't they just use the actor from superman returns

@JoshuaMr007 The film is a reboot which means that it breaks away from the previous incarnation or continuity and starts all over again with a hole new take on the character and his world. In other words, this movie is in no way shape or form connected to Superman returns, it's a completely different world with a new suit, new krypton, new score and cast. Like Nolan' s Batman begins, TDK, TDKR, or the new Spiderman film, Man of Steel has absolutely nothing to do with the previous films.
