I awoke dazed and with pain in my lower body.
"B-Baby? Baby? How you feeling?" I widened my eyes a little and I caught a glimpse of the curly locks that after all these years still sat atop the perfect man's head.
I took a deep breath and spoke softly "Alright. Just sore, really sore."
He stroked my hair gently and I could tell he was fighting back tears, "He's- he's beautiful. He's so perfect."
I smiled and pushed a sweat drenched lock of hair out of my face. "How long have you been here?" A light moustache began to show around his mouth and I recognized his clothing from the day before.
He slightly chuckled, "Since the beginning, honey. Since the beginning." He leaned down to kiss me and I placed my arms around his neck, pulling him a little closer. The ring on my right ring finger glimpsed in the bright light of the delivery room, and for once, nothing in the world felt wrong.
A nurse clad in scrubs and a facial mask around her neck entered the room all smiles.
"Congratulations! He's absolutely adorable." My fiance and I exchanged proud glances back and forth between each other and the beaming nurse. "We just need you guys to sign the birth certificate, and I know you weren't 'equipped'" She placed air quotes around the word and I raised my eyebrows in agreement, "to write what you wanted the baby's name to be before. But uh, do you kn---"
"Yes." I glanced over at my nervous fiance. We had an agreement that if I chose this baby's name, he'd choose the next, and I hadn't yet told him what I chose. Opening my mouth to tell her the name, I decided against it, and chose to spell it, fearful that there would be a mistake.
"J-O-S-E-P-H"
She repeated after me, "Joseph. Mhm."
"A-D-A-M" I glanced over at Joseph who had exploded with joy, and was now silently shedding tears.
"Yes, Adam."
"J-O-N-A-S"
"Jjjohhn-us?" She couldnt properly pronounce it.
Joseph intercepted, "JOE-nus. And there's a Junior at the end of that." He nodded his head proudly when she corrected her mistake.
Another nurse whose clothing nearly mirrored the first's entered the room carried a fidgety newborn in her arms wrapped in a blanket that read 'It's A Boy!'. A few tears escaped my eyes, but I quickly wiped them away, and sat up to hold my baby. The nurses left, quietly whispering about Joe Jr., leaving Joseph and I alone with our baby. He was our baby, and no matter what happened, he was ours. A product of our love and another ounce of proof of our devotion to one another.
As Joseph and I prepared to tie the knot, there was talk of Charlotte and Nick doing the same. They decided to wait a few more years, and got married when Nick was twenty eight, therefore making Charlotte thirty-two.
Arianna and Frankie, although we were sure they'd wind up together eventually didn't, and moved on after leaving for college.
Wee happy ending :]
