This is a new video of AWE1549 captured from New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's office.
US Airways Flight 1549 was en route to Charlotte, North Carolina from LaGuardia with 150 passengers and five crew (two pilots and three flight attendants) on board.
It went down in the Hudson River on Thursday after taking off from LaGuardia Airport at 3:26PM EST (2026 GMT) time, and everyone aboard was able to off the plane and alive after landing on water.
It all happened after a bird or flock of birds is sucked into the jet during takeoff, then pilot declared emergency and wanted to go back to Laguardia airport but couldn't make it since both engine failed.

  • it's amazing how a $5,000 investment in security cameras can really get you the shot of a lifetime.

  • Fuuuuuuck, i want that pilot every time i fly.

Did you see how smooth he landed that thing on water.

It was like watching a sea plane land.

  • @astrallove You belive that this guy actually autolanded in a river?

  • Stupendous; nice footage.

  • winter....

Don't let your ego get in the way of a dictionary, or simply asking about what you might not understand. Yes, that's very old world.

I've since learned the plane's trajectory and control input at touch-down was directed by computers. Now that's new world.

    Pray for good circuits, passengers.

  • astrallove. try to speak with a little more clarity for the general youtube audience. This kind of tech-speak only serves to massage your own ego.

  • that would've failed since it shows airbus aircrafts are still intact after ditching on water

  • your dumb i bet you werent even on the flight...hate to break it to you but you wouldnt have smelled shit the fan would have torn the bird apart and what was left would have been incinerated before the engines flamed out

  • I wanna see a vid of them taking that plane out of the water...

  • That was definitely a decisive landing, and evidence why the passengers experienced secondary collisions. Whether by choice or not, I suspect the aggressive touch-down mitigated the disruptive impact of the engines on fluid dynamics, preventing it from yawing, rolling, or turning as it de-accelerated. Great piloting!

  • what you mean he didn't made the right procedures? if he had try to turn around, we would all die!! besides that, it was too low and too slow and that's pretty much more risky if he had tried to turn back around with two engines powerless. definitely this was a bird strike because we could smell the burning of bird meat!!
