The standing barbell twist is a great exercise for your obliques.
Make sure to keep your core drawn in for the duration of the movement.
To optimally perform this exercise, try to keep your hips from rotating during the movement with the only movement being your waist and slight movement about your shoulders.
Keep your glutes contracted and core drawn in. This will help you target the correct muscles as you will be in optimal posture.
