Howard Gardner, Hobbs Professor of Cognition and Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education describes the background that led to his development, thirty years ago, of the theory of multiple intelligences. He outlines the major claims of the theory, the ways that it has evolved over the years, the principal misunderstandings, and the applications that he most admires.
