gas weedeater trimmer outboard boat motor - Armand Melanson

Weedeater weedwhacker conversion - 33cc provides 5kph thrust in calm waters ( pushing 2 canoes as pictured). Prop from RC boat tapped to thread standard trimmer shaft. Many online "experts" have said this cannot be done - HOGWASH! It was a piece of cake and works like a charm. Trimmers are a very cheap way to put a basic outboard on a canoe... When you're done slap the trimmer head back on the shaft and you're good to trim up the yard.

Had to put a slot in the bottom of the trimmer head using a dremmel so you can steady/lock the shaft when you want to remove the prop. But really no biggie... You can buy used trimmers for 30 bucks so you could go through 20 before you are into the cost of a decent trolling motor plus deep cycle batteries...

>> after a 2 years trying this I can say that if you want any degree of reliability you need an electric trolling motor or real outboard. A whipper snipper motor does not like water much and you will spend alot of time having to clean up components that get rusty or corroded. Also, a 33cc engine does not really provide enough propulsion if there is any wind or chop. So if you want to try this for the fun of it enjoy, but don't use in any situation where you really need to count on it...

the prop is the largest RC boat prop you can get - I think the 270 - just go to your local RC shop. has 2 blades. The key is to tap the prop to match the threads on the trimmer shaft. You have to predrill it and not easy to secure such an odd shape on a drill press. This prop was made from a hard allow so took a long slow time to drill. i will post a vid of putting the prop on/off but it is a no brainer once tapped - no diff than removing/adding the trimmer head.

@bigD9600 well im 13 and I have an 11 footer with a weed eater outboard i made and it is only really good for trolling speeds and its kind of a pain. For actual moving at a decent speed, I just use my 5hp Tohatsu. they really are great motors

@bigD96000 where the f*** do you find a 32 horse weedeater motor? kid go back to school for a bit because at the most you might be able to find a 1 horse weedeater. unless you ment to say 32 cc which is way different, and in that case not fast maby 2-3 kph.

hello im 12 but my dad had gotten me a small 12 ft john boat and i was wondering how fast do u think a 32 horse weedeater motor with a trolling motor prop would push my boat because we go through some rough terrain and well i like longtail motors than standard outboard motors? plz reply
