As a kid, growing up in North Carolina was always something I took for granted, and never really appreciated. But the further the road takes me away from it, the more I feel that pull back home. I've been to some truly wonderful places, and they all have their charms, but there's nothing like a balmy, breezy night in the piedmont where the smell of fresh rain mingles with honeysuckle in a way that will linger in your memory forever. Some of those evenings I wouldn't trade for anything.
