Ray's first skydive.

See also my "slide show" video of the same skydive.

Teaching technique is "Accelerated Freefall" (AFF) in which two instructors hold on to either side of you until you deploy your chute, and you control your own descent under canopy. (Different from tandem jumping in which you're affixed to an instructor all the way to the ground.)

See U.S. Parachute Association,
http://www.uspa.org/

To remain stably positioned facing the earth in freefall, you arch your back and thrust your pelvis forward. That's what makes my belly look round in some shots. It's really much flatter in real life. ;-]

Yes, it's exciting.

  • very cool : )

  • Thank you for commenting @RuntLaLaLa

    I'm glad you liked it!

  • OH WOW! This is awesome :) How many Tandems did u have to do before you could do this? It's the best feeling in the freaking world. Loved how u narrated it!

  • @nataliemedia This was my first skydive. No tandems beforehand. It's called "accelerated" free fall (AFF) which means you get more instruction than tandem, since you have more responsibility (not being tied to anyone).

    .

The best feeling in the world was when I was things settled down and I could see the chute had opened!

    .

Yep, narrating was tough. But playing the music at the same time was particularly demanding. 8-)

    .

I did a "slide show" video too--made it before this motion vid, #FYI.

  • That's so cool That has really made my mind up about whether to skydive next summer can't wait! looks fantastic

  • @DoRayMeFa Oh wow, that is way cool. I haven't heard of that before and must check it out sometime. Yes it's true, when you aren't scared to death that you are plummeting to earth, the chute is open and you are gliding, it is the best feeling. I was scared beyond belief the first time I did it until that point. After that it was overwhelmingly cool. Have you gone again since that jump?

I will check the slide show out on your channel. Thanks for sharing!
