Gerrard was most definitely was the best candidate for captaincy after Ferdinand went out.
England's successful formula: Joe Hart as Goalie, Gerrard playing down the middle, with Defoe partnered with Rooney.
Even though Rooney was something of a disappointment at the world cup I can see his form returning.
As they say "Form is temporary, class is permanent" too true in his case.
