Using an 780nm(IR) laser and a webcam with the IR filter removed, I turned my laptop into a multitouch screen. The software is the smoke demo that comes with Touchlib.

  • Do you wear Eyeprotection while you use it?

  • @Flodice yes, thought the 120 degree line lens spreads out the beam a lot

  • @Flodice yes though the 120 degree line lens spreads the beam out a lot.

  • what program did you use?

  • @InsaneTux I believe I was using touchlib at the time which has since been superseded by Community Core Vision (CCV)

  • this is just a average touch screen computer... no lasers or anything

  • @duncandude55 It is a Gateway tablet yes, but the model cx2610 is pen based and doesn't respond to touch. It does have a laser mounted to the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

  • Very cool. I do have a simple question.

Could you do single laser tracking with touchlib with the 780nm laser similar to a digital whiteboard? If so, where is there some good information on this?

I know it's a silly question why one would want in IR laser for a digital whiteboard, but there is a specific reason.

  • @jonidimo

he uses a line generator on the laser, this creates the laser light plane
