Nope you can't, also if you play any pre-9th style IIDX, the flares are even longer and brighter on those games. You just have to get used to them.

Go for it. I recommend making it a habbit trying at least trying all songs nonrandom once, empress has many suprisingly good nonrandom charts even for hard songs.
