My rough music video/documentary shot in January 1987 at the Pergament Home Center in Franklin Square, NY. The video features store employees and their catch phrases, set to New Order's song "Confusion."

With competition from Home Depot, the store closed in 2001, and is now a Walgreen's, but the colorful characters we worked with in the ridiculously cramped home improvement center will never be forgotten.

  • wow I use to work at pergament at boro park then transferred to jackson heights. in 95 worked till they went out of business. Till this day its still the best job i had and i had a great time working there. Laughed at the sku number lol

  • I got my first cashier's job at Pergament in Middle Village back in 1987-1988. In fact, I got both my older brothers a job there too, working in the Lumber Department. I meet so many great people there that I still think about them all till this day. I wish I remembered their full names so I can look them up on Facebook and reconnect with them. Dispite the fact that I was fired for carelessly overlooking the signature of a stolen credit card, this was the place where I learned to be independent.

  • I was a kid when my dad would frequent Pergament at the MetroMall in Middle Village. I used to think that place was so boring, but looking back it had a nice warehouse feel to it more so than Home Depot. It was very barebones, and quite charming because of that. I mean a Home Depot looks polished compared to the concrete floor and poor lighting of that Pergament in Middle Village.

  • Used to Be Hills grocery store... that's why the liquor store is called Hillside.

  • Anyone remember Rooms and Lights...a short lived experiment bt Pergament.

  • On Frankiln Ave, close to the Hospital. I remember that store. I grew up in Franklin Square. H Frank Carey class of 1991!

  • So many familiar faces. (but I remember almost no ones names).

  • This video had me in tears. Man. Hilarious.

  • wow I worked there for 9 years@ the Portchester NY store help me to survive back then, can't complain

  • hey Pergament thanks for all the spray paint I stole from you guys. I'm sure the MTA appreciated all the whole cars we painted for them!!! hahahahaa
