The ratchets should be of the 11,000 pound design and the strap should have a WLL of no less than 3500 lbs. Neither is the case here. The U shaped hooks are also a problem as the strap loosens as they can become disconnected. You should be using a D ring with a snap clip to ensure they don't fall off.

We use wheel straps on our tow trucks exclusively. That configuration is dangerous for one very important reason. The strap tails need to be equidistant to the tire and connection points. When you hit a bump with it like that, the tire will actually turn slightly towards the back hook to equalize the pressure on the two tailings. This causes the strap to loosen. Once loose, it can come off. Also, the ratchet strap he is using only has 1000 lb work limit. See next post...

When You tight it up, You have to leave enough slag to be able to make two full revolution on the ratchet, so the belt will actually tight it up on the drum. Otherwise You might think and feel it's tight but it can start slipping and eventually get loose.
Tow safe!!!

That's not a recovery strap it's just a tie down.
So what happens when it rides up the tyre and works lose...

The straps are designed for vehicle transporter trailers and when tight enough they grip the wheel and pull down to secure the vehicle.
