"Ta tréna pou figan" (Les trains qui sont partis / The trains which left), Stavros Xarhakos/Vangelis Goufas, 11/1985.

Athens Experimental Ocherstra / Stavros Xarhakos.

Deutsche Grammophon Recording / Enregistrement Deutsche Grammophon.
---------------------------------------
Mon amour a fui dans les trains qui sont partis au milieu de la nuit. Je suis resté seul. J'ai besoin de ta main, de ton regard réconfortant, de ton sourire afin que mon coeur se réchauffe à nouveau.
--------------------------------------
One of the trains which left in the night carried my love away with it. I have been left alone. I need you hand for my support, your comforting look, your smile to warm my heart again.

  • I have just bought this CD having found it only recently - it's fab. I have most of these songs already but sung by Nana Mouskouri, and it's interesting to listen to alternative arrangements of some of my favourite songs. I must confess I prefer Nana's version of Odos Oniron, as sung by her many years ago on the album with Harry Belafonte. I have not heard Agnes Baltsa's voice before and will listen to this many times over. Wish there were more like this.

  • thanks for your comment. I had not idea Nana Mouskouri sang this but now I'll be looking for her interpretation. As for Agnès Baltsa: she remains a major opera singer and a great actress. You'll discover her and become as passionate as I am by her art!

  • I ADORE this CD!

Agnes Baltsa really goes to the emotional heart of this music.

This song is wonderful but I particularly love "Stou Othona Ta Hrónia" (When Otto Was King) with its captivating bouzouki accompaniment.

    Thank you!

  • You've said it all and I have not much to add! Italy, France and Spain (not to mention England thanks to Haendel) produced major works. But there is something in Greece... this exceptional mixture between dispair and hope that remains unique. Something that hits you deeply in your heart and Madame Baltsa certainly contributes to this culture.

  • Thank you for responding to my request.Isn't it just a beautiful song.

  • yes! this is just pure beauty... this entire recording is very emotional and moving. The music, the words full of meanings of course but also thanks to Madame Baltsa's interpretation!

  • Hi! Thanks so much for putting this music online!!! I've been a 'fan' of Agnes Baltsa's interpretation of traditionnal songs for years, & I've always found it sad that they were so hard to find!!! (I literally spent several years trying to find this CD!) :-D All the best! G.

  • This is one of my treasured CD's. I found it in a record shop in Melbourne and I have hung onto it these past 15 years no matter where i moved. I don't know a single word of greek.. However, with the voice and instruments it is all music.

  • Italianoperafan, thanks for posting this. Mouskouri had sung a number of the songs that Baltsa recorded on this album, but not this one. Ta Traina Pou Figan was made popular by Vicky Moushouliou in the mid-60s, in the era before the dictatorship.

  • Well, I often got records every one tells you that ther are out of stock in one of those vitrine-shops which are only open during concerts-hours and even if those are departments of bigger record shops - they do not sort this vitrine-stock back into their ordinary repertoire/stock. So to have a look on those dealers in the aulas of concert halls often gives me trouvailles - in this case I had luck in the Wiener Konzerthaus.

  • wonderful, fantastic voice i have omly heard Markos Lampas sing this ,so nice to hear a female sing it too ,thankyou italianoperafan , you would also call me an italian opera fan , but so great to hear my native tongue ,

  • J'aimerais savoir si vous avez son interpretation de Aspri Méra
