  • I used to hike up to a hotsprings from a neighborhood in Santa Barbara. Was about 1 mile off paved road. At the foot of the trail was a water treatment plant for the neighborhood below - where they took the sulfer hot water and (wasted it) made it into household water. Seems like, with that one, we had to divert their pipe, to get an adequate flow to the pool. Anyone know about that one?

  • never heard of it. it sounds closer. wish i knew where it is. the drive to the springs in the video is long.

  • I will try to describe what I remember. You started in downtown neighborhood (on Ventura side of SB but it was in town SB, not in the hills - in other words, there were solid houses right up to this neighborhood, it was not off on one of the mountain roads). There was a big water treatment plant in the neighborhood that looked like an Olympic size indoor swimming pool enclosed with a corrugated plastic roof and seems you could both see and hear it from road.

  • thats prety vage but next time im in sb ill try to find the water plant see you there

  • place looks relaxing i ithink ill go

  • it was great the drive is long shortcut is gibralter street cuts 10 miles off the trip from having to go around SB and coming in from the back J

  • Ha, I answered this 11 months ago as lunarkingdom roflmao

  • to malibrian, you are talking about monticito just south of santa barbara, the pool you refer to is on hot springs road where they waste the sulpher to make tap water. this hotspring is completely capped and while you can pull out the pipe I would not advise it as you could damage the source.

  • Nice!

  • thats on hot spring road in monticito!!

  • Thank you for showing Caliente hot springs. We have been there several times. I love Caliente hot springs and the surrounding terrain. It is one of the best places I have ever been to.

  • I think these springs are off of a trail called Gaviota Peak, but I totally might be wrong.

  • Think it is around Mariposa ln area...

can you post the location of the pool in the video?

  • Maybe million dollar older homes (but not 5 million dollar homes) on maybe half acre lots. If you drove around the neighborhoods at the foot of the hills on that side of downtown, and looked and listened for a big pool, you probably could find it. Wish I could remember street name.

  • You parked on the street and hiked up a trail. The trail often followed the pipe (which fed that plant). Maybe a mile hike up hill through undeveloped hills. The folks who owned the plant would try to stop the folks (us) who liked to use the hot springs, so sometimes it would be partly disassembled. Hell, they really had no more rights than any of us - they just thought they did. The neighborhood maybe between 1 and 2 miles from town center.
