This is an early 6" dry cell that I put together for my own personal benchtop use. And yes, I did fab the endplates out of a couple cutting boards I got at the local Walmart. Remember, this was one of my pre-production test units... and yes, they (cutting boards) have held up quite well for my use. I'll probably replace them soon though with some PVC endplates like I have on my 8" version.
I have a duplicate unit that is setup in the same 4N3 configuration to allow me to do some comparison and other testing.

Nice Job. Glad to see so many people using the Dry Cell design I posted June 2007. I think the square gasket is better than the round one I used. More surface area exposed to the water. My first one was with 1/16" thick plates. The 22 gage makes it easyer to make the quick connect fitting. Do you know anybody that has built a Voltage Doubler that sirHOAX discribed. Like to find out what size caps and diodes to use on the AC Alt. output?

I've got to be careful answering that one. I have an identical one to this that has black rubber feet. She might get jealous...

I built this one starting with just the plates and gaskets. The project was to complete a unit with only parts that were available from local hardware stores, automotive parts stores, WalMart, etc... Places where just about anyone could pick up the items to complete a unit on their own.
The cutting boards were only $5 each. The rubber feet let is sit nicely on the bench.
