Well, folk songs traditionally have many different ways to be performed as the songs usually originate without music; hence we have ''She Wore A Yellow River'' sung in many different ways.
Still, I wouldn't say that this is ''very'' differenet from the version that Matsumura Kazuko sung in 'Zatoichi', though it is different (mainly the music rather than the actual song).
That is true but it is still pretty good and folk songs have a lot of different tunes to sing it too also. ;-)

Zatoichi version is MOVIE VERSION ...
....movie version is distilled perfection of highest form ...

Thanx for the knowledge, dude. It appears your correct in that there seem to be many ways to do this song.

This is VERY different from the Tsugara Jongara Bushi that Kazuko Matsumura sang in the 1989 Zatoichi movie. See watch?v=nJJo0sDxmW4 at 1:20
Perhaps there are many ways to sing this Japanese folk song. :)
