Here's the fantastic Spinners performing live I've Got To Make It On My Own in 1976, a smooth groove!

The Spinners rate as one of the most fantastic groups along with The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Dramatics, The OJays, The Stylistics, The Whispers, The Intruders, Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes, and The Delfonics. They were apart of the golden age of classic soul groups who mesmirized us with their dances, energy, and love songs.

It's Ashame, Rubberband Man, Mighty Love, Could It Be I'm Falling In Love, I'll Be Around, Mighty Love, One of a kind Love Affair, Ghetto Child, Sadie, How Could I Let You Get Away, Then Came You, Games People Play, Love Don't Love NoBody, were among their biggest hits, making them the premier group of the 70's.

  • When Charles Simmons and I wrote this song, my thoughts were on my proving to my Father that I could make it in my chosen field of Music. As it turns out my Father was quite proud of me. He let me know before he passed away. You too can make it on your on. This is the first live video that I seen on this and I am glad that it is preserved for future generations. BRRUCE HAWES, COMPOSER

  • @HawesBruce You wrote a beautiful song. It really touched me as a woman. I think everyone in life has something to prove to someone. I think the young men of today should hear this song about how to be a man and what being a man is all about.

  • I certainly missed this group a great deal and listened to their songs often. Phillipe is like no other I ever heard and only wish he was here today. He really gets to me when I listen just makes me shout.

  • @HawesBruce WOW it's great that you are sharing why you decided to write this song! I happen to love quite a few of The Spinners songs! I saw the Unsung episode about 2 weeks ago & I wanted to check out some of the groups live performances that I had never seen before. I was born in 1970, but The Spinners songs were always in heavy rotation at all of my parents house parties, bbq's & laying on the beach in Wildwood N.J. Thanks for great music & memories!

  • Wow, it's great to have one of the writers of this song share thoughts. I loved the Spinners and I was so happy to have grown up in the 70's when they were at their peak!

  • Their harmony is so damn tight! They have those girls gettin down behind them but they're tight with or without.

  • Oh man, thanks for posting one of my favorite songs. The version on the Spinners Live album is insanely great.

  • Why can't we get tracks like this by today's artist? Philippe and the Spinners were magnificent. Kudos to the songwriter as well.
