As dog owners and first-time parents we were initially concerned about how the dog was going to respond to the baby. It has turned out to be just great! Since the day we arrived home from the hospital after the delivery, we worked with the dog very closely to make her understand that the baby needs to be respected no matter what. Since the baby has become mobile he goes and grabs her tail, pulls her ears and mouth, grabs for her toys and lunges for her in her bed. The dog submits. And when it becomes too much for her, she just walks away. She is also very gentle when our baby wants to play tug of war with her rope.GOOD GIRL!

  • Hi :) i have a korean jindo aswell :) and we are expecting our first baby in Feb :) sashka (our jindo) is very friendly with kids and most strangers, but hates cats and only some dogs, she goes on walks with other dogs and is great with them cos she knows them :) however can u give me any tips for when the baby comes home :) thanks

  • @casper1967 We did follow Cesar Milan's advice about this and it worked for us. While I was still in the hospital, my husband came back home a couple of times with our-then-infant's wet diapers and clothes and let her smell them from a few feet away. After the baby came home, we always made sure that the dog kept a respectful distance from the baby and any baby item for a month. We never punished her when she got curious and got too close, but we were very firm in terms of blocking her.

  • @casoer1967 Continued. She understood the new hierarchy quickly. She never got aggressive toward the baby. After then, we had to teach her to be not so hyper-jumpy near the baby. Nowadays, the aggressor is our toddler. When Ppoppy doesn't feel like putting up with our baby, she just walks away. We profusely praise her when she behaves correctly despite the toddler's behavior. However, I must add that I always monitor their interactions and let both know what's expected. Congrats!

  • I'm sure your dog knows your baby is part of the family. My Jindo was a softy whelp with family but fierce with 'outsiders' humans and dogs. Great for security but bad with other dogs and strangers wanting to pet him during walks.

  • Our dog is the same way as yours. As sweet as pie to us but she doesn't like strangers or dogs. Before the baby came, we did do months of training to make her tolerate petting from strangers and it did work for a while. After the baby came though, she went back to her protective and guarded old self. I think it had a lot to do with the fact that we didn't keep at exposing her to strangers.

  • So cute. I have a black Jindo who I adopted from a rescue group when she was 2. She's been really good with my niece and nephew who are both 4. They can get pretty rowdy but she's never gotten to hyper or aggressive around them. She's also handled kids well when we're out on walks. One time a little boy came running up all excited & yelling "PUPPY!" & grabbing her around her head. She didn't bark, didn't nip, didn't growl at him. Just kept trying to duck her head out of the way. I was impressed!

  • my jindo doesn't know how to play tug of war with a rope. i put the rope near her feet so she could inspect it but she only sniffs it and walks away....

  • What a good Jindo. I have a Jindo and she is protective until the person or animal becomes part of the pack. When i got her from a shelter she was pulling @ the fence with her teeth trying to get @ a cat. Once we got her home and she got used to our cat she now cleans his ears and dries him when we stick him in the shower.

  • @snjeung they shed but not profusely. retrievers and short haired breeds of similar size shed more. best thing more than shedding is that jindos DO NOT smell like other breeds. I've had collie/goldie mix and and chihuahua and they both stank like dog after a bath in a few days. My jindo smelled like shampoo for weeks after bath and didn't get that doggy smell beyond that.

  • Do jindos shed a lot?

  • Have owned many dogs but one I remember the most is jindo dog, ttho-suni(smarty girl).

We Koreans are well known for having "jung"(extremely deep emotional soulful bond) with love ones and ttho-suni definitely had that in her with our family.

Due to economical situation we couldn't bring her to the states as a result I cried my heart out for over a week.

And I can wait until I get another jindo in near future and going to name her ttho-suni in honor of her.

  • Very well trained, great to see such a great dog.

  • cutest baby and dog i have ever seen! >.<
