  • No. 4468 seems to have a good rolling chassis, so how about her boiler?

  • It's in pretty bad shape to say the least unfortunately, she won't be steaming anytime soon...

  • Fantastic! Two brilliant engines together - what a sight! Out of interest, when was this all taken roughly? I had no idea that Mallard was once again active! Was she in steam or just being pushed/pulled? Thanks, Will =)

  • Sorry for the very late reply, I haven't been online in a while, the all photo's 7 footage in the the video were filmed on the same day which was July 19th of this year. Unfortunately Mallard was only in tow and isn't active but this was still a rare opportunity to see her outside on the mainline and not in a dusty museum. She was in tow by the red engine.

  • very nice video

  • thanks!

  • 4468 NEEDS to steam again. I would absolutely love to see her under her own steam again on possibly the York main line before I die (and I'm only 23 so it may happen, lol).

  • @Intercity47GBRail will she ever steam again? and i noticed u said the boiler was in bad shape in what way or how?

  • i like the 5972 olton hall steam engine i have one in my o gauge hofwarts express set from 2007 they have realy big wheel drivers on them the Mallard steam engines kinda in a wayreminds me of the usa built commodore vanderbuilt hudsons steam engines they were great engines very sleek looking i not sure but i dont think any were saved

  • @Rabbitbunvoo Last time I was at the National Railway Museum, I was chatting with one of the staff there, I asked if there were any plans to put mallard back into steam...he said no, for many reasons, but mostly the money needed for a total strip and rebuild does run into millions of pounds, but also current rail regulations require things like AWS, and ATP, which would ruin the locomotives originality

  • 4:30 i saw that diesel & coach in a yard on my way to euston station yesterday

  • Great shots of 4468 and 5972
