From the National Historical Society of Gettysburg, the commercial claims, the original Civil War Chess Set. If it really was as detailed as it appears to be, it looks like it was a nice set to own if you're into that sort of thing. I looked around and most of the other similar sets these days don't look as detailed.
Been laughing at Fine Puter for 20 years now.

I haven't seen this commercial since the 80s, and it amazes me how much of this i remember.; it's as if I saw this ad only last week.

These were made in USA at Franklin Mint. A true masterpiece. After 1987 pewter production moved overseas. Seems all the public cares about now is buying cheap imports at Wal-Mart.

I still have the board and pieces and they are in mind condition.
I got it as a gift because at the time I was playing a-lot of Chess and was a Civil War buff (I was 10 years old in 1982)
Wonder how much this set would be worth now.

I just got a hold of one of these complete sets. To bad I don't play chess I bought it because I like the detailed work in every figure.

@Dunbahl It was $17.50 for two pieces. multiply that by 16 and that's $280 + $8 for total s&h. If they pay COD, tact on another $16. That's what I got from the commerical. Plus they had a special deal if u pay all at once. Plus u get the board 4 free, I think its a hellava deal considering the time period.
