iPhone 4s after 27th week of 2010 are most likely fixed, having that said, check your serial right now:

my serial is xx035xxxA4T

0 = 2010
35 = 35th week of 2010
A4T = iPhone 4 Black

If yours is xx026xxxA4T it is not fixed thus you HAVE the issue

If it is xx027xxxA4T it is MOST LIKELY fixed

I only read an article about this and tried with my newly bought phone, thus if you think this is a wrong theory, please comment below, and tell me what you think.

The iPhone 4 serial number is easy to decode! It's in this format:

aabccdddeef
aa = Factory and Machine ID
b = Year
cc = Production Week
ddd = Unique Identifier
ee = Colour
f = size

Our serial numbers:
85025xxxA4S (16GB unit we took apart)
86025xxxA4T (32GB test unit)
86027xxxA4T (32GB replacement)

Apple has so many iPhones out in the field that it's very hard to get a feel for what's going on. They may have just switched to their new process at one of their factories, or they may be rolling it out slowly, or this may be an internet myth. The only way to find out is to check a number of units that have just shipped from the factory.

We need your help! If you got an iPhone in the last few days, check the serial number. If the production week is bigger than 27, try checking the impedance of the metal frame with a multimeter. If you hold the leads about an inch apart, the resistance should be less than one ohm. If it's substantially higher, you may have a unit with the new coating. (Accuracy of multimeters varies dramatically, but we'd expect a nonconductive coating to have a very high impedance.)

  • Hello everyone,

    Unfortunately, this video show the usual problem of reception of iPhone 4.

    At the beginning of the video you can see that the phone takes 3 bars but in 3G mode, when the phone is taken the phone switches from 3G to E mode and this switch is lose signal!!!

    My opinion is that if there are changes they can only be seen after 40 weeks.

  • @fabriv75 its true it drops on 3G but Edge has better signals.

  • damn im not first

  • @pattyxpatrick But the first comment is kinda weird lol

  • Nice breakdown! Very cool!

  • It's not a problem with the antena ~X( God,I don't care if I have 5 or 4 bars of signal,is the same.... :|

  • @7heRu55ian hmm, thus the website from ifixit

    might be wrong, but the iPhones in the stores in Taiwan do not experience the signal issues. hopefully the iPhone 4 64GB might be releasing around the end of the year with the white version with the fix.

  • @iAC1Touch : I tested about 10 iPhone4 so far in Italy, production from week 29 to week 36 and the problem is still present (notice that we're used to much better networks than US, but the problem still exists).

    I heard rumors about major fixes around production week 40, so let's wait and see! ;-)

  • Ehhh, no use in first, it'll end up being the last one anyways.

  • CHINOI :D
