Text:
In the midst of the noisy ball,
amid the anxious bustle of life,
I caught sight of you,
your face, an enigma.

Only your eyes gazed sadly.
Your divine voice
Sounded like pipes from afar,
Like the dancing waves of the sea.

Your delicate form entranced me,
and your pensiveness,
your sad yet merry laughter,
has permeated my heart since then.

And in the lonely hours of the night,
when I do lie down to rest,
I see your pensive eyes,
hear your merry laugh...

And wistfully drifting
into mysterious reveries,
I wonder if I love you,
but it seems that I do!

Sred' shumnogo bala, sluchajno,
V trevoge mirskoj sujety,
Tebja ja uvidel, no tajna
Tvoji pokryvala cherty.

Lish' ochi pechal'no gljadeli,
A golos tak divno zvuchal,
Kak zvon otdaljonnoj svireli,
Kak morja [igrajushchij]1 val.

Mne stan tvoj ponravilsja tonkij
I ves' tvoj zadumchivyj vid,
A smekh tvoj, i grustnyj, i zvonkij,
S tekh por v mojom serdce zvuchit.

V chasy odinokije nochi
Ljublju ja, ustalyj, prilech';
Ja vizhu pechal'nyje ochi,
Ja slyshu veseluju rech',

I grustno ja, grustno tak zasypaju,
I v grjozakh nevedomykh splju...
Ljublju li tebja, ja ne znaju,
No kazhetsja mne, chto ljublju!

Люблю я, усталый, прилечь;
Я вижу печальные очи,
Я слышу веселую речь,

И грустно я, грустно так засыпаю,
И в грёзах неведомых сплю...
Люблю ли тебя, я не знаю,
Но кажется мне, что люблю!

  • It is really the best interpretation of this song on youtube. If he will follow only notes, as usual, it is boring and monotonous. Gedda have the surprising scent in Russian which is absent to our shame beetween our own singers. And you instead of low bowing to him, direct the silly and incompetent criticism.

You cant understand the the main difficlties and specific of this romance and Lieder at whole

  • wow, what lovely phrasing. this is magnificent

  • @Roam665 are you listen Zara Dolukhanova?

  • @vinllga The last interpretation of Hvorostovsky is better for me.

  • Хорошее исполнение.

  • In my opinion the piano, being good, is not at the level of the singer, and in that this is a slower and quieter version than the usual, but then I don't find it too quiet not halting at all, . As a matter of fact I certainly like this version much more. The reflection, subject of the song, is a reverie, made in a musing way.

And certainly, and this is what I would suppose vstasov refers to when he says that Gueda "is trying to say something", I find this rendering particularly expressive.
