You need to program the esc so that it doesn't accelerate so quickly

because... its all part of the hobby ... you break things then you fix them, and trust me i dont treat any of my rc stuff like shit i always take time to pretty them up after each run :)

a 2 cell lipo might be a little too much power if you are racing on a dirt track, all you will do is spin the tires, , you can use the same motor and esc but just use a nicad battery for racing,or you can program the esc with using the computer program castle creations has for slower take offs and that would be fine for racing too. and about the run time i got about 35-45 mins on my cheap 1600mAh lipo battery from china so an 1800mAh like what you have should last a lil more then that.
