Many people have asked me how I can take care of Williams hooves, because no farrier can get close enough to him to pick up a foot.
I have had to do the trimming myself from the beginning, and apart from heavy protests from my own back and undercarriage, it is no real problem.

  • Oh, what trust he has in you!!! From seeing the other videos where a farrier tried to trim him, I am glad you are able to do it yourself!!

  • @simpletonsunshine me too :-)

  • My pony was beaten by a farrier but has improved a lot. If William is scared - have you ever tried a female farrier? It may be that he just associates his fear with men farriers. But I did watch some of your videos of him and he looks almost aggressive, not scared - maybe if you found a lady to shoe him he might be better? :) x

His extreme fear finds his way into agression as he must have learned that this was his only means of defense against his no doubt extreme abuse in the past. But contrary to what people suggest here regularly, he is very, very afraid.

I think that because it was impossible to shoe him anymore in the past, that was the reason he was sold to a dealer.

  • u are an amazing person, brought me to tears to see how much love and trust he has for you after all he has been through, truly shows a wonderful relationship you have came too with time patience and love. amazing! he knows u love him

  • WAUW!!! dat is het woord wat ik er voor heb.

Inderdaad wat een vertrouwen geweldig dat William dit heeft voor u.

    Respect voor u.

  • The first thing I notice differently is your attire and approach. You are not wearing farrier chaps nor are you carrier a hoof stand, and you great him normal. I agree, the aggression is fear and anxiety based and that every element of the farrier appointment bothers him. Have you ever tried introducing those things to him yourself? Also, how is William with normal human strangers? Do you know a farrier that would be willing to meet William causally, without his gear, build a friendship first?

  • Farriers who abuse Horses rather than have Patience with them, should be Re-Evaluated and lose their Licence if any abuse is noted. William is lucky to have a Owner who also Trim's Hooves.

  • There needs to be more people like you in the world :)

  • Good on you for not giving up on him and either passing him on or selling him to the works. Your probably quite right in that he will probably never be able to be shod again but horses are amazing and he will adapt quite well without shoes. Lovely looking horse :)

  • WOW! I am so impressed how far you both have come!! I recall the days when William could hardly stand still while tied and doing his feet was a gong show! Excellent progress!! He even lifts his hoof for you before you ask. Proof positive that love, respect and patience fixes ALOT!! <3 Good for you both!
