Because the music in "The Glenn Miller Story" was produced in four-track stereo, the original Bluebird RCA recordings of Miller's arrangements could not be used, the Universal-International Music Department, under the guidance of Joseph Gershenson and Henry Mancici, acquired all the original manuscripts in Miller's library and copy-traced, note for note, the ad lib solos in each tune.
Seven members of the original Glenn Miller Orchestra were located to become the foundation of the all-star musicians who recorded the numbers.
They included Chummy MacGregor (piano), Babe Russin and Willie Schwartz (reeds), Dick Fisher (guitar), Rollie Bundock (bass), Zeke Zarchy (trumpet) and Paul Tanner (trombone).

  • Am I the only old softy - hope not! Luv BB x

  • The trumpet solo really makes this a true classic of the Swing era. We were all blessed that Glenn contributed so many great tunes to the American musical treasury.

  • @shaunsstuff79 Which he had arranged for Miller!!

  • @4205lr yeah i know the story about billy may !! when he and his wife divorced part of their settlement was that she got writing credit 4 alot of his songs and thats why u see her name 9arletta may) listed instead of billys name !! thats 4 all of u who didnt know lol

  • @shaunsstuff79 I am not suggesting that Miller was not an excellent arranger. He did many fine charts for the Dorsey Brothers orchestra in the mid 30s. All I m saying, and it is confirmed in the book Moonlight Serenade by john Flower, that when he became a band leader, he had no time to be a full time arranger. That is why he hired Finegan and later Jerry Gray. Trumpeter Billy May also contributed. May arranged "Take The A Train" and "Ida".

  • Of course, everyone knows that!

  • @4205lr lol he not only arranged it HE WROTE IT !!!!!

  • @shaunsstuff79 I'll concede that Miller did arrange Moonlight Seenade!

  • @4205lr ok i know thats not true cause glenn was constantly arranging for his band thats what his natural talent was is arranging!! but to prove it ill ask paul tanner next time i phone him which im gonna do here real soon cuz its been awhile since ive talked to him
