All eyes of the record crowd of 12,057 are on Horse of the Year and world record holder Albatross, but it's Isle of Wight, a third-place finisher in the 1971 Cup, who gets to the wire first. Herve Filion drives a 1:59 4/5 mile, the first sub-two-minute performance in Cup history.
My father used to take me to Winsdor Raceway "Home of the Tartan Turf" back in the early 70's because a minor couldn't get in to tracks in the USA in those days. We always joked and called handicapping, "The Family Business". He was there that day. I wish he was still with us, he would have enjoyed watching this. Thanks for the memory.

Thank you so much for posting this...I actually came across it via a blog. I randomly google my Dad's name, Joe DeFrank, to see what pops up. Imagine my delight to find this vintage footage back when he was sporting the Elvis sideburns! LOL I spent several summers in Windsor before Dad started at the Meadowlands. Can't wait to show my Dad, he'll get such a kick out of it!! Again, MANY thanks! Terri (DeFrank) Fanton

Truly incredible piece of harness history; this race played a critical role in Albatross ending up at Hanover Shoe Farms. As of that day, Albatross was slated to stand at Lana Lobell Farms and was listed in advertising as a Lana Lobell stallion to come, for months. Of course, all that changed...
