September 2004
Tara is 13. She likes to go to the mall. And she likes to wrestle boys. We follow her on her journey to the national championships as she battles cultural expectations and struggles to cope with the pressure to succeed. From confronting institutionalised discrimination to grappling with eating disorders, Tara's story takes a personal look at the clash of gender and sport in American culture. An intriguing look at modern girlhood.

  • I can tell you as a coach that without a doubt girls are the future of our sport. I see more and more every year especially at 103 and 112 and they are very competitive. I think a lot of attitudes have changed since this movie was made. I like the point the girl made when she said that if it was sexual then boys should be more creeped out by wrestling with other boys.

  • She's happy to practice her sport: this is more important than all the hatefull words that some people can pronounce...

  • I can tell you without a doubt you're an idiot.

  • @rtheuer1 I can tell you without a doubt you're an idiot.

  • Fuckin' cunt in the making.

  • @rtheuer1 Nobody is saying it's sexual; boys and girls shouldn't wrestle each other for sociological and psychological reasons, and because it gives idiots such as yourself an opportunity to say bullshit things like "girls are the future of our sport."

  • she needs a girls singlet, or needs to wear a shirt under hers, cause thats part of what makes people yell inappropriate.

  • @rtheuer1 sexual as in inappropriate contact not the act itself.. Ok its just like guys having a shower together in the same bathroom is not sexual or creepy.. but if a girl shares the same shower or changing room, then questions are raised.. If this girl is comfortable fighting them, then after a match she should join her comrades for a bath and a few wrestling jokes in the locker room.. these are all part of the wrestling sport..

  • @degeneratehalo: cheerleading isn't a sport. There are a number of sports that are women only, and there are never any complaints until a man tries to join the team and everyone cries foul. Meanwhile, you'll see women trying and successfully joining other "male" sports teams, and everything is good because people feel sorry for them. Nevertheless, I am of the personal conviction that women and men shouldn't be wrestling each other, especially after puberty, and no, not just cause theyll get hurt

  • if boys can do cheerleading then girls should be able to do wrestling

  • @dailybrother yeah more and more colleges are making all girls wrestling teams im a girl and this is my 9th year wrestling im 13 and i will be on varsity next year and i will be the first girl in oswego county to be on a high school wrestling team also getting a sposorship for college on wrestling.

  • Hate, one of the trendiest words in the world.

How would the girls feel, if we guys started invading their space, with things they do? Think about that. Maybe the lockers rooms should be co-ed if you feel that strongly about it.

Girls develop faster than boys at that young age, and to exploit that is bullshit!
