Special Olympics Capital Region Floor Hockey Team Provincial Tournament

During the weekend of Feb 11th-13th Fredericton's own Capital Region Floor hockey team won Gold at the Special Olympic Games at Base Gagetown. Capital posted a record of 5-0, including 3 shutouts from their All-Star Goalie Craig and two of the teams top scorers in Jamie and Derek scoring 10 and 7 goals respectively.

I've been helping coach this floor hockey team along with a few other students (Jordan, Jeff, Danielle, Dion) since early October and couldn't have imagined that I would have this much fun. Getting to know the players, seeing them improve and gain relationships that will last forever are only a few reasons why I've enjoyed my time volunteering with the Capital Region Special Olympics. If you're not involved, get involved, It is worth it!

I would like to thank Susan for all of her time and energy that she has put into this team. As sweet as this victory is, it's only going to get more challenging on our road to Nationals in St. Albert, Alberta next February (2012). The other student assistant coaches and I plan on fundraising and attending the National Games with the team next Winter. Heres to a job well done Capital !
