I met Rushdie once in person after a lecture he gave at my college about a year before I became Muslim. At the time I was the typical white American college girl. He looked at me like I was utter trash. I was also shocked by the amount of cursing in his lecture, and I thought at the time it was because he was British, but now I know it's just because he has a foul mouth, and an even fouler pen.

Well I am a great proponent of Christian Muslim alliance and think we need to especially face together the threat of vast conversion of to atheism esp in Europe. But since you have two points which i think needs to be clarifed. Ok Deut 17 you can say its blashpemy but Lev 24;16 is cleary for apostate and please read the context to make thinngs even more clear and "blasphemy" by the way is just disrespect to God and Bible has this punishment for it.

Bollocks. That (Deuteronomy) is not the penalty for not believing in the Jewish monster-god, that is the penalty for worshipping other gods, the sun, or, wait for it, the moon. Why does Islam, an apparently proudly monotheistic creed use such a clearly pagan and polytheistic symbol as the moon as its symbol? The Leviticus reference is for blasphemy, the ultimate victimless crime, not apostasy.
