Shortening Your Poi

Lesson Type: Beginners-Intermediate

Prerequisites: Basic forwards and reverse spinning

In this tutorial video I show you how to shorten the length of your poi. This may take some getting used to the feel of, but once you do you'll find yourself shortening and lengthening your poi naturally, without having to stand there and consciously do so. I'll give you some more advice on lengthening and shortening later.

This video is a little choppy, because it was originally part of the Buzzsaw tutorial, but I figured that this warrants its own tutorial video, as it is applied to more than just the buzzsaw.

If you're having troubles, feel free to ask questions, or just post a video response of yourself attempting the move and I'll help you out.

Enjoy,

Nathaniel Everist

  • Do you have a lesson on shortening from a 3beat weave forwards?

  • @RaggedyAndyLA Yup, do it when your arm is crossed your body. So when my right arm is on my left side, I will open my hand for that beat, let it wrap up, then close my hand and continue. Left hand will do this on the right side.
