Introduction for 'one family'
In February 2010, Burma Issues conducted a field trip inside Karen State to raise internally displaced persons' (IDPs) awareness of the upcoming elections. While they were watching a video, the township where the IDPs were staying was attacked by the Burmese army. They had to flee into the jungle and our cameraman decided to follow.
He became particularly interested in one family -- a grandmother, 2 parents and 4 young children -- who have endured permanent displacement for 3 generations. For 4 months he became deeply involved with them and managed to film an intimate portrait of their daily struggles. He then returned after a period of time to assess if their lives had improved. They hadn't.
As the family had to leave all of their possessions behind their life is now a cyclical nightmare. Every time they manage to build a hut for shelter, or manage to plant a basic crop, they have to flee from violence. Soldiers and landmines ensure that returning is out of the question. They manage to keep on building new shelters but never manage to make a home.
Although shot in eastern Burma, this video highlights the plight of the countless millions of IDPs across the country who have to contend with extreme violence, food shortages and a lack of access to health care and education.

  • how can I forget that you have done to my karen peoples SPDC

  • :(

  • This all things happening are just because of the Burmese Government's Cruelness and inhuman actions on Ethnic people. So shameless, immoral, unethical Government.... tortures and oppress own citizen, even do not spare life of children and old people.

  • Back to 1948, British(White People) had have given independent to Bama(Burmese) people, and others ethnics were forgotten by British(Whit People) note. Sorry for commenting on this video and forgive every words that i commenting. Thank for uploading, thank you.

  • There is no sexy girl,no sexy boy,no playgirl, playboy,no gangster, and also no free school. Back to U.S.A, you going to see K people have super expensive cars, 10000 dollars motorcycles, 100,000$ to 1,000,000$ expensive houses, free schools ,beautiful clothes, live in buildings, eat delicious food, meat, pork, beef, chickens, hot girlfriends ,hot boyfriends, and more else. Seriously sad, never heard and never see freedom in Burma or Myanmar since 500 B.C.

  • That's really sad, and absolutely exhausted film.No car,no motorcycle, no bicycle, no tricycle, no unicycle,no big house, and nothing more. I wonder Karen people still use bamboo to draw water. You can see at part 3:35 and part 3:39. Without war, i think there will be fun.Live in mountain is really cool, you can catch fishes, animals, birds and others. Also you can find bamboo shoot ,vegetables, fruits and others. You don't have to buy, but if you lazy to find and eat, you have to buy from someone

  • Thank you Burma Issues. Keep up the good work!
