  • thanks for the info

  • Hi Dr Greg. Thank you for your quick answer. The Dr I saw was using a simple needle that she slightly bent a bit. She removes the lid from the vaccutainer, and let the blood slowly fall into the tube. Then insert the lid, pierced once more to remove the pressure inside the tube. (to avoid the lid coming out during the analyze). Then homogenization for 30 secs. Out of her last 33 runs, she had 6 plt agg flags, I believe because the draw was maybe longer than with a syringe. >>>

  • @Vincku I will have to review our procedures and question the lab about plt aggs. How critical are these?

  • I am trying to find the best method to draw blood for the Lasercyte. I noticed the sample is passing twice in the same needle. This will create plt agg (PA) or you could have your sample hemolyzed. (RBC hitting debris in the needle).

In human labs, the blood is going through the needle directly in a vaccutainer tube, limiting coagulation and plt aggregat. Why not doing the same ?

  • @Vincku Do you work with humans or animals? It can be difficult to collect blood even with a syringe and needle. Adding another degree of difficulty with the vaccutainer would make it tougher. We are getting good CBC's etc. What problems are you having?

  • Great Video..You make it very easy to understand!! =)

  • @roaming1978 Thanks. That is my goal. If explained right people outside the medical field can understand better and can be part of the team

  • In some case, plt aggregat can really disturb your white blood cells reading. That is why it is best to keep them minimal. The Lasercyte will tell you if you have plt aggregats, the dotplots will display how disturbing they are. (WBC reading, pale blue color next to lympho/mono)

  • >>> On 140 runs, she had perfect results on her Lasercyte. MCHC: median value: 33( +/-2). MCV: 70 for K9.

The few agg plt messages did not disturb much the results. (Checked on the dotplots that you can activate on IVLS software 3.15).

I believe this method to draw the blood, very close from human method, is for something into so consistent results. She's going to try with a blood collection needle holder.I like the idea of the blood hitting the edta without passing in a dry syringe.

  • @xrsize12 Thank you that is why I like to do these videos. So that people can understand what it is we are testing
