In December 2009, the accomplished hyperpolyglot and master of linguistic acquisition, Professor Alexander Arguelles, was chosen as the fifth and first non-UK resident winner of the Lingua Genesis Annual Association Award.
Giving his reasons to the professor for granting him this award, the Director of Lingua Genesis referred to the Professor as arguably the most reputable, well-substantiated, resourceful and multitalented linguist with whom he had ever been acquainted. He spoke of the fact that never had such a determined, successful and versatile hyperpolyglot sold himself with such modesty and dealt so didactically with numerous questions and queries about the vast extent of the art of linguistics.
Despite theory provided to him by Professor Michael Erard, Dundas firmly believes that the talent of Professor Arguelles is rooted in an unrelenting determination to succeed, as well as his realisation and enhancement of the strengths of so many language learning processes. In addition to this, he has contemplated and spoken with conviction about numerous approaches to language learning, encouraging others to be as open-minded and flexible as possible as part of the self-discovery process of their own learning abilities. He also appreciates that we all learn in different ways and that any single learning technique or teaching strategies may be viewed with differing levels of simplicity / complexity, depending on the individual.
This is an annual achievement which since 2005 has been given to that member of the public who has actively contributed the most to the theory and development of the Lingua Genesis ideology. Over the years, the reasons which have validated the conferring of the award have been different, ranging from the publication of simplified and coherent explanations of language grammar for laymen, the encouragement to seek support from local government, funding lenders and House of Commons politics, especially in the fight for free adult education, and the extensive use and promotion of computer-aided language learning and NLP within the field of linguistics.
Thanks for the comment, Laoshu. Professor Arguelles is a very modest, inspiring and down-to-earth individual, who is both highly academic, indescribably innovative and psychologically driven to acquire language to the extent that he is unstoppable.
For me, the Professor's own journey and discovery of effective self-teaching strategies is doubly significant. On the one hand, he is testing his own limits and on the other hand, he is encouraging widespread independent MFL learning.
