I'm really happy all the comments here are in favor of this video! I've seen both English and Western riders use bits as the sole source of 'control' improporly. They are not cars, the reins are not a steering wheel. This is why I think it's a good idea to start in a rope halter, gain the communication thru body language, leg and seat queue's and leave your reins as the last bit of communication, then graduate to a bit...if you even need one.

To parallel the issue of bit use, I could make a video of how a poorly fitted saddle and bad riders bouncing, cause pain and dammage to a horses spine as reasons no one should ever sit on a horse's back and that horses should only be driven never ridden. Any reasonable person would understand the responsibility we have to ride PROPERLY regarding both bits and saddles, NOT that we should never ride or use bits.

What if you were just lightly ... LIGHTY LIGHTY tuging on the reains? i dont rlly pull nor tug and my horse backs up lol :P

Used Properly, the bit causes no pain. I agree that most bit issues are caused by english riding. But some western riders are also guilty. It is due to the bad riders that we have issues like this. my horse comes running when i grab the bit to go out for a ride. The only time she throws her head is when she is frightened or a bug is bothering her. When a horses bit fits properly, the chances of it injuring or bothering the horse greatly decreases. Thus, still leading back to the rider.

@NaturalJumper1032 yea i thought that too, but but when your cantering with the horses head in that position, its head moves slightly up and down from the impact. I think it was demonstrating the effect this on the neck in the collected position. :D

Most all bit problems are english riding related. As a western rider I use pressure bits with a curb chain. My horse is free to full flexibility and I have never used a bit to harm her mouth. Knowing how to use a bit is also important. If you have no control over your horse and you think you need to punish it by slamming metal into his teeth then there is something seriously wrong with you. A bit is not a tool for hurting it is a way to let your horse know what to do then you wont even need one.

This video really made me open up my eyes. I've always used a bit on my now deceased appy. It hurts me to know that his poor mouth must've been in pain everytime I moved the reins. I'm sorry Cruzer RIP :(
I just feel an urge to say that whoever is riding the horse in this video has some serious riding trouble. Just riding normally, doesn't make the horse toss its head like that. The rider has to pull and jerk on the bit. To ride ANY horse, you don't need really tight reins. You need contact and you need to use your leg aids more. I ride my horse with a bit and he NEVER tosses his head. It's not the bit. It's the rider.

Nice video! Being one that understands the harm of bits, and the damage of hyperflexion etc, I understand this video, but I think that for some people, it might be a good idea to explain the theories being displayed here.
