Longing to Light
a play in poetry
by jill Wright
A play with 10 characters. The female characters are aspects of one woman—Bride, Wife, Siren, Warrior, Grieving Woman, Poet and Goddess—and the two male characters are also the same man in two aspects as her Husband and Groom. The story takes place over the course of a marriage, a twenty-five year time period—and goes through their coming of age and coming to themselves through hardship and tragedy.

"I don't really like "kitchen sink drama" because in those plays the sink is only a sink. Things are just things -- blank walls, mute and meaningless with a molecular structure and a single name.
I love poetry for the stage because poetry has one foot in the enchanted kingdom in which a sink is a well, a spring, a turgid river of garbage and riff raff and...and the place you fight over who is going to do the dishes." jill Wright
