Please Watch in HQ. This is a ten-minute, rough, work-in-progress piece of the film "The Singing Teacher" about voice teacher Joan Kobin and her husband Robert Kobin and the revolutionary technique they created. Please bear in mind that this footage is standard def footage shot approx 15 years ago and not great picture quality. It will be "up-res'd" in the post production.
in this segment (that doesn't deal with singing at all ;-), Joan Kobin's eccentric style of dress is highlighted. The clip includes interviews with Barbara Cook, Daniel Massey, Donald Pippin, Lorna Luft, Jane Summerhays, Wally Harper, Tovah Feldshuh, Farley Granger and Theresa Saldana. The film is being made by Rick McKay, the producer/director of the "Broadway; The Golden Age" film trilogy. This segment has not been color corrected, conformed, final edited, audio balanced, etc. It is a rough work-in-progress.
Sadly, Joan Kobin died on May 30th, 2009, but had finished filming. The film will be released as a part of the DVD release of "Broadway: Beyond the Golden Age" in 2010.
Suddenly while drive up the 405 this afternoon, I was struck with the urge to google Joan. I don't think I'd seen or spoken to her since 2005(?). Sad to learn of her passing. Happy to find this post. She was one hell of a classy broad, who helped me to find my voice. God bless.
