A bowline knot is useful to temporarily hang something from the ceiling or to use in safety situations, as it includes a loop at the end of the rope. Practice tying the bowline knot with instructions from a rock climbing instructor in this free video on knot tying.

  • Just a point of order, the bowline you made is in fact called a Cowboy Bowline (or left-hand bowline or Dutch Marine bowline). The only diff between this and a regular bowline is which way you go around the standing end. Probably makes no difference in effectiveness or use.
