@Conker303 srry the name is acutlaly breton
-
@Conker303 Well the cheapest one that i know of is the one that i got, but i don't know if they even make it anymore. It was (is) a brenton, and i think they manufacture them more cheaply because i hate mine now and want a pedal harp but i need to play it in order to get one....
anyways, the one that i got from brenton was $800 and is fine as long as you tune it. get a lever harp (the smaller ones) not a pedal harp and teh lever harps have 30 someodd strings most of teh time.
-
@ZethDankera note to self get a pedal harp already in order to play in the strings orchestra next year...
-
@23rakshasa23 i got mine for $800.... and i've had it for four (or is it five XD) years but i'm more of a beginner so if you're a beginner who doesn't really play that much out for other people (but i did and just because i'm the only person at my school who can play harp. (we have 175 ppl approximately at my school..-_-..)) then get one that costs less or just rent one but i highly doubt renting one. the rentals are really beat up. i saw one yesterday at the salvi harp store and it had gouges.

@23rakshasa23 yup, I just got a Lyon and Healy Ogden for as much as a used baby grand... and that was the cheapest harp available other than the electric models.... however to anyone who wants to try lessons and see if they even like harp... Lyon and Healy offers an awesome rent to own program(in chicago)... i payed $265 to rent my 34 string ogden for 6 months.. then decided to buy because it really is up to par with the tone and elegance produced by a baby grand, so therapeutic to play!

What do you think kind of harp is good for someone who hasn't played the harp before and is wanting to get into it? How many strings? What kind? Please tell me if there are any that are cheaper than these $500 sum dollar ones. I'm 14 and I like the sound of the harp and thought it would be neat to get into so I was hoping you could help me. Please give me any helpful information you can.
what harp do you have? i have a clarsach :) havnt taken any grades yet but been doing it for 2 years:) also, where did you get the music from? :)

@alalia111215
I have a Lyon and Healy Prelude harp with 38 strings.
The song was arranged by Kim Robertson and is in her "Celtic Christmas" book that has a dark green cover.

you did a great job!!! sounded amazing =]
just wondering: is it hard to learn the harp, with all the strings and stuff? i've wanted to try playing it for a while. it's always been my favorite instrument

It wasn't hard to learn to play the harp because I already played the piano and knew the theory of music. You then need to learn the techniques of the harp. It's not that difficult. You should try to play it sometime. Make your dreams come true!

Except I'm told that a decent one can cost as much as a grand piano!

@23rakshasa23
Depends on what you consider "decent". The most expensive Lyon and Healy harp costs $179.000.00. But that has 23+ carat gold! That's decent but not necessary.
