John DeMain will guest conduct Virginia Opera's new production and Virginia Opera premiere of Verdi's AIDA.

Maestro John DeMain is Music Director of the Madison Symphony and Artistic Director of Madison Opera. Previously, he served as Music Director and Principal Conductor for the Houston Grand Opera for 18 years. During his distinguished tenure, he led the world premiere of John Adams's "Nixon in China" and a history-making production of the Gershwins' "Porgy and Bess," which he subsequently recorded for RCA, and won a Grammy Award, Tony Award, and France's Grand Prix du Disque. His work for The New York City Opera's 2002 production of "Porgy and Bess" was televised as part of the "Live from Lincoln Center" series and garnered an Emmy nomination.
