Over the next 90 days, the lander is set to dig into the permafrost to look for evidence of the building blocks of life and to examine the water-ice near the north pole.

  • because i think they want to investigate the water

  • why put it in a valley? isn't that kinda hindering the capabilities of the rover? put it out in the open and allow us to see absolutely everything it discovers.

  • Because that would be putting the cart before the horse.

The Viking probe did just that, and came up empty.

The new strategy is to look for elements that may support the development of life forms. There is no point looking for life if the elemental building blocks are not there.

  • Why it only look for water and chemicals and not test for ACTUAL life already there?

Seems a big waste of time.

  • Thanks for nice video, facts and thoughts. :)

  • Well done NASA. Great stuff.

  • Thank you, very informative :)
