Im from the CTF (Chin Mu Kwon Tae Kwon Do Federation) system. This is a more brutal style of TKD.

Turning a martial art into a sport always fucks it up and waters down the art to the point where it is no longer practical to use in a street fight.

I'm in the WTF and that's pretty heavy fighting that we do. Most vids don't show the real fighting anymore. And where is the protection these days!? Nobody is holding his ahnds up! My instructor would kill me if i didn't do that. It saved my ass once.

THIS IS WTF STYLE TKD.. SPORT STYLE.. REAL TKD IS ITF STYLE. WITH PUNCHES, KNEES, ELBOWS, TAKEDOWNS! what you see in the video is just sport point scoring.. not a real fight like ITF sparring.

To answer peoples questions about keeping your hands up, its better to keep your hands up to protect your head, but the reason why a lot of people keep there hands down is because you can kick A LOT faster then if you were too keep your hands up.
In a tournament its better to keep your hands at your sides to protect your body so they don't score.

i don't understand it ... my step dads friend who was in the korean army (tae kwon do instructor) instructs me to put my hands up at all times...its weird how a lot of tae kwon do videos on youtube lack the protection for the heads...

The reason you see a lot of vids of tkd on you tube that don't keep their hands up is because they practice sport only.
