Lebanon is bracing for more violence as Fatah al-Islam - a Palestinian terrorist group backed by Syria and has links to Al Qaeda - resumes fighting with Lebanese troops. Almost 100 people have been killed since battles began last week, in what has been described as the worst violence in the country since the Lebanese civil war. There are fears that Fatah al-Islam has spread to other parts of the country. Fatah al-Islam's goal is that the violence will bring about the collapse of Fouad Siniora's government, leading to the establishment of an Islamic fundamentalist state.

The latest outbreak of violence is part of a continuing pattern of Jihad waged by Palestinian terrorists in Arab states. In September 1970 (Black September), the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) headed by Yasser Arafat fought a bloody civil with Jordanian forces in which 7,000 to 8,000 were killed. Following their eviction from Jordan, Palestinian terrorists established "Fatahland" in Lebanon, and instigated the Lebanese Civil War in which thousands were killed, and many Lebanese Christians were forced to flee their homes.

  • In the ensuing 11 months, the PLO staged 270 terrorist actions in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, and along the Lebanese and Jordanian borders. Twenty-nine Israelis died, and more than 300 were injured in the attacks.

  • MYTH

"The PLO posed no threat to Israel and was observing a cease-fire when Israel attacked Lebanon."

    FACT

The PLO repeatedly violated the July 1981 cease-fire agreement. By June 1982, when the IDF went into Lebanon, the PLO had made life in northern Israel intolerable, by its repeated shelling of Israeli towns.

  • Wow..Lebs and Palistenians on each other's throat, why I am not surprised. Both doing the only thing they can do, killing, if not Jews then each other.

I wish Lebanese and Palestinians great successes in killing each other.

I wonder why Lebanese are not talking about "Proportional Response" now.
