Mr. Hampson offers this "Gift!" From New Year's Eve 2009, at Lincoln Center, he performs the beautiful Aaron Copland composition, "Simple Gifts," from "Appalachian Spring." I feel it's more appropriate for saying "Happy Thanksgiving!"

  • Just lovely thanks for sharing!,

I've listened to Aaron Copland's Simple Gifts many times but i'd never heard this hymn sang until today listening to the radio, It's such a great simple little thing!

  • @zach200cc I'm honored, and grateful to hear from you! Mr. Hampson is amazing, and his voice really complements this work by Mr. Copland! Thanks for writing!

  • @60bui Honored to hear from you, and thanks for your mention! Though short and sweet, this performance conveys so much more!

  • I first heard this beautifully done song by Thomas Hampson on "Sunday Morning" around 8 or more years ago and have been listening to this wonderful singer ever since.....the song is a American classic and so is he!

  • @sandymaine1 I suggest we're in complete agreement! He's absolutely one of the best! Thanks for your message.

  • Wonderful interpretation!

And in the text we can find optimism, courage, pride. 'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free,

'Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,

And when we find ourselves in the place just right,

'Twill be in the valley of love and delight.

    When true simplicity is gain'd,

To bow and to bend we shan't be asham'd,

To turn, turn will be our delight,

Till by turning, turning we come round right.

  • Thanks i wasnt familiar with all those beautifull songs.. so my delight is even higher...

  • You're welcome! He seems to sail beautifully through so many of the classics!
