Van Curaza Surf School hosted the 4th Annual Pismo Beach Surf Clinic for Wounded Soldiers from the Brookes Army Medical Center in San Antonio Texas. This community-sponsored event took place September 3rd through September 8th in Pismo Beach, CA. I was able to be a small part of welcoming these brave Men and Women to our Central Coast Community. Enjoy the video of these patriots, God bless America and support our troops!
Van Curaza Surf School has developed an adaptive surf program to allow these soldiers to experience the thrill of surfing in a safe, constructive, land and ocean environment. The program began with comprehensive instruction on land that includes ocean safety, ocean awareness, equipment use, and adaptive techniques that cater to each individuals disabilities.
They then take the soldiers into the ocean to put into action the instruction theyve just received on land. While in the water each participant is assigned a professional adaptive surf instructor to maintain a safe 1:1 student-teacher ratio. In addition each instructor will also have two trained assistants placed in the water at various distances in the participants surf zone as additional safety buffers.
This process creates a surfing experience that is based upon proven teaching methods created by legendary waterman Van Curaza and National Amputee Surfing Champion Rodney Roller.
Through generous sponsorship and donations the soldiers experienced our communities' hospitality from the time they arrived at San Luis Obispo county airport to the time they departed.
Go to www.operationsuf.com. They welcome any sponsorship and donations that will benefit Operation Surf.
