thanks for this intimate glimpse into another illegal and murderous war/ occupation by the US Dept of War...it is just amazing to me how ignorant the average 'Merkan is to be consistently and continously believe the lies told to them but the war profiteers who send their young people to kill for their profit, without an ounce of shame or conscience for the immense suffering caused to the soldiers and the people they are terrorizing..."War is a racket, always has been, always will be"

To those of you leaving nasty comments, I'd like to say something wildly inappropriate and insulting to you, but i won't. I think that it's safe to assume that none of you have been there and done that, because no combat soldier would ever say any of that. I was in 3-71 CAV and served with 1-71 CAV as well doing tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and I can safely say none of you know what you're talking about at all. Those people need our help, and the war is more complicated than you realize.

Jon Krakauer, an excellent writer, turns his attention from mountaineering heroes like Reinhold Messner to Pat Tillman, a man who devoted his life to the two most idiotic, disgusting and reprehensible pursuits ever invented: football and war.

I don't see any reason that we should escalate the war in Afghanistan. Those soldiers were killed because they are involved in killing other people. How should we get less people killed? Not by sending more people to do the same thing they're doing.

I'm not trying to denigrate any soldiers by saying this. But we should not valorize soldiers at the cost of endangering millions of innocent Afghani lives.

I look forward to reading Krakauer's book on Tillman.
