"Ady Gil: The Last Moments"

This is footage taken from the Ady Gil, covering the three minutes prior to its catastrophic ramming by the Shonan Maru No. 2. Thanks to Luke van Horn, a Sea Shepherd officer currently aboard the MV Bob Barker, for making this available. It clearly shows the Ady Gil come to a full stop and the Shonan Maru No. 2 approach from a distance, LRAD and water cannons blasting, and smash into the Ady Gil.

  • @kaycorey1 They were low on fuel but not out of fuel. They were to head north to meet up with the Steve Irwin. It was a error in Judgment not to avoid the Shonan. Pete treated it like a game. Not very smart

  • @Stopthegreed but didn't they say he was out of fuel?

  • @kaycorey1 With the Shonan heading straight towards you i would think it best to maybe avoid them and pull out of the way not sit up on top and wave to them. There was no reason to just sit there. A classic mistake by Pete Bethune. But remember Pete new nothing about the fleet and hadn't had any real contact with them. He was naive and really should have acted to protect the Ady and his crew from danger. And everyone knows the Japanese can be dangerous.

  • @kaycorey1 No what happened was the whole fleet, all the harpoon ships and the Bob Barker were following the Factory ship. ( All traveling in the same direction) The Ady Gil had been harassing the factory ship. The Ady stopped and as the factory ship pulled away all the other ships continued to follow. The Bob Barker was the first to pass the Ady which was just bobbing in the ocean. The Harpoon ships were following the Bob and the Shonan was on a direct coarse with the Ady.

  • @Stopthegreed but weren't they already far enough from the Shonan?

  • @kaycorey1. The Japanese totally turned into the Ady. But that doesn't change the fact that the Ady should have stayed well clear of an on coming Harpoon ship. How many times have Sea Shepherd ships been rammed in the past? Loads.. Pete was just very inexperienced with the whole issue. If Pete had powered up and moved out of the way and headed north to the Steve Irwin like he was suppose to then the Ady would never been run down. i just put it down to inexperience by Pete

  • @Stopthegreed well if you didnt see the footage of it from the barker, it shows the japenese turning right into the ady gil

  • @SuperHippie2 some kind of non-lethal weapon called the L-rad. the japs first used it against the sea sheapords helicopter pilot to get him away from the ship. its makes a VERY FRIKIN LOUD sound when turned on

  • @TheFleiger The Ady Gil and Bob Barker had only been with the fleet a few hours. Not days or weeks, But the Japanese were desperate to lose them. I dont blame them at all. The Ady should have stayed well clear of an oncoming Harpoon ship. Its no game yet Pete and his crew seemed to think it was with all their high fives and laughing. They kind of looked stupid mocking the Japanese then getting their asses run down.

  • What is that beeping sound? could someone please tell me
